Braves Acquire White Sox’s Vazquez

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthall is reporting that the Atlanta Braves have traded for starting pitcher Javier Vazquez, and possibly reliever Boone Logan from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for infielder Brent Lillibridge, catching prospect Tyler Flowers, and a pitching prospect that has not yet been named.

The White Sox for their part were able to continue getting younger and may still, according to Rosenthall,  deal veteran outfielder Jermaine Dye.

The Braves have been looking for starters this offseason and the 32 year old Vazquez fits the bill perfectly, having put up a 4.67 ERA last year with a sub .500 record of 12-16. While the Braves no longer have the miracle worker Leo Mazzone as their pitching coach, pitchers often benefit from moves to the NL and Vazquez could easily provide 200 innings of reliable work for the Braves.

The acquisition is not expected to end the Braves' pursuit of an ace for their rotation. It might, however, limit their ability to pull off a trade for the Padres' Jake Peavy after having dealt three of their young prospects. The Braves had reportedly turned their focus to free agent A.J. Burnett in recent weeks and he would certainly seem to be the more attractive option for Atlanta at this point.
