Brewers Trade for Diamondbacks’ Lopez

by Ben Cook on July 20, 2009

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired Arizona Diamondback's short stop Felipe Lopez in exchange for two prospects.

Arizona will reportedly receive pitcher Roque Mercedes and outfielder Cole Gillespie in exchange for Lopez who is in the midst of a one year deal with Arizona.

Lopez finished strong last season with the St. Louis Cardinals after being released from the Washington Nationals. He then inked a one year deal with Arizona where he's batted .301 with 6 HR and 25 RBI.

The switch hitting leadoff man should improve the Brewers offense, providing more RBI chances for the Brew Crew's heavy hitters, but that won't matter much if slugger Ryan Braun doesn't snap out of his funk soon.
