The Los Angeles Dodgers are now “actively involved in negotiations” with free agent second baseman, Orlando Hudson, according to the LA Daily News.
The former Gold Glove winner has had limited suitors this offseason despite his career year last season, due in large part to his status as a type A free agent who was offered arbitration.

The slow market for type A free agents such as Orlando Hudson, Orlando Cabrera, and Juan Cruz might lead Major League Baseball to alter the rules surrounding the trade of free agents, effectively opening the door for sign-and-trade agreements.
Currently, free agents are not allowed to be traded until June 15th, however FoxSports’ Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the players union would be open to allowing players, specifically Cruz, to waive that right.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly the close to signing free agent pitcher Randy Wolf.
The longtime Phillie spent the 2007 season with the Dodgers winning 9 games with a 4.73 ERA, making just 18 starts due to injury. Last year the lefty split time between the Padres and the Houston Astros and putting up a 3.57 ERA with the ‘Stros.

Just over a year after signing the free agent outfielder, the Los Angeles Dodgers have released former All Star Andruw Jones. The two year, $36.2 million deal goes down as one of the more memorable busts in recent years, after Jones batted just .158 for the Dodgers in 75 games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly signed reliever Guillermo Mota to a one year deal that will bring the pitcher back to LA where he spent 3 years as a set-up man for closer, Eric Gagne.
The 35 year old right hander had an ERA of 4.11 over 57 innings last year with the Milwaukee Brewers and will take one of the spots in the Dodgers bullpen that was decimated by free agent defections this offseason.

The Atlanta Braves have reportedly inked free agent pitcher Derek Lowe to a 4 year deal worth $60 million and also signed Japanese pitcher Kenshin Kawakami to a three year deal.
Lowe, who went 14-11 with a 3.24 ERA last year for the Dodgers joins a Braves staff that will be without ace Tim Hudson for at least the first half of the year and recently lost Mike Hampton and John Smoltz to free agency.

The Boston Red Sox have reportedly signed former Dodger closer Takashi Saito to a one year deal with a team option for next season. Saito is a fairly significant injury risk so the deal is heavily incentivized, with the guaranteed portion worth reportedly $1.5-$2.5 million and potentially worth more than $7 million.
