The Toronto Star is reporting that the Blue Jays have signed free-agent David Eckstein to a one-year deal for $4.5 million (U.S.). Eckstein was the World Series MVP for the Cardinals but suffered from injuries last year while still managing to bat .309 in 117 games. David's gritty all-out play made him a fan favorite in St. Louis but the Cardinals refused to agree to arbitration and later signed Cesar Izturis as his replacement.

Tough to see him go, especially when we’re replacing him with someone that can’t hit.
Ha! on Eckstein. The guy who we offered a decent deal turned it down to get another year for a four-year arond $30 million. We offered him three-year at $19 million. And he’s goint to the Blue Jays. Turns the tables on him, he should’ve gone with us while he had the chance. How arrogant.
