The Baltimore Orioles appear to be close to signing second baseman Brian Roberts to a 4 year contract extension.
Roberts, a 2 time All Star, has been the subject of persistent trade rumors over the past few years which first had him heading to Atlanta and more recently the Chicago Cubs. A deal never materialized, however, and Roberts stayed put. Now, if the report in the Baltimore Sun is accurate, his tenure with the O's will be a bit more stable.
Roberts, 31, has hit for an average of .293 with 10 home runs, and 57 RBI over the past two years and along with out fielder Nick Markakis who also received a contract extension this winter, figures to anchor the Orioles offense as they continue their seemingly perpetual rebuilding.
