The list of teams interested in non-tendered Mark Prior is getting longer by the day. We already knew the list included the likes of the Reds, Astros, Padres, Nationals, and Rangers but today the Star Ledger is reporting that both New York teams are interested as well. Prior is still coming back from injury but reportedly could be ready towards the middle of the season and his agent is seeking a one year deal presumably to allow the young pitcher to re-prove himself. No matter what a free agent is looking for, it's always better to have the Yankees and Mets involved.

hard to believe what Prior’s career has come to….he was supposed to be the next great one.

I’m a bit disappointed that he wasn’t willing to restructure a deal with the Cubs – Kerry Wood actually came back to the Cubs because he wanted to play hard for the Cub fans, since he (felt giulty) was taking so much money during his time off with injuires – he wanted to prove to the fans he wants to win for them as well. Unlike Prior, Wood has CLASS!!!!!!!!!!
@ Cubs Win … I don’t think class has anything to do with it. Players get injured. It happens. The fact that those pitchers made a lot of money while injured doesn’t mean they were somehow stealing from the team. It’s all about the money and if Prior thinks he can get more money from some other team then that’s his prerogative. Who are we to tell him how to run his career?
The reason Wood came back to the Cubs was because he believed that was the best move for his career. The same can be said for Prior not returning to the Cubs.
And as a Cardinal fan, I feel compelled to offer up the suggestion that maybe Prior just wanted to play somewhere he actually had a chance at winning in the next 100 years.
I would have to agree with Cubs Win. Baseball has become a very selfish sport with the “what’s in it for me” attitude. While making as much money you can is an economically sound decision; loyalty should also play a role.
Wood distinctly came back because he stated he owes it to the fans. He actually felt guilty for being paid such a high salary for rehabbing over the last few years. His attitude was refeshing to see in today’s DISHONEST profession.
Prior only cares for himself and maybe it was a good move to not offer him arbitration. The Cubs were willing to resign him, yes at a cheaper rate, but the incentives would have made it worth his while.
As for winning, well, he was the same pitcher that blew it for the Cubs in that infamous 2003 playoff game. He had his chance to make history, but failed.

Wood STATED that is why he came back to the Cubs but why wouldn’t you? It’s great PR to say that.
Do you really want to get into the 03 playoff game? Your entire team choked, and in epic (and true Cubbie) fashion. You can hate Prior if you want but injured players don’t owe anyone anything. Teams cut players at a moments’ notice these days so why should players be loyal to teams that aren’t loyal to them? I agree that loyalty should play a role, but it can’t be a one way street.

Your whole argument regarding loyalty is riduculous ( I was only speaking of the Prior vs. Cub case, not any other players or teams).

That address is not displayed publicly but I, as the owner of the site am able to see what you entered. When you commented the first time as Longtime Fan, you entered the same email address as Cubs Win. Therefore, I know that you are in fact the same person.
Now, this time you used a different email address but unfortunately, the IP address is also recorded. The IP address you commented from this time is still in the same class as the comment from Cubs Win and your first comment here. Let it go, we’ll all move on and we’ll all have a happy holiday.
You know, it takes an ability to ignore what is in fact going on around you, and an ability to believe that something entirely different is happening to be a Cubs fan. I mean, how else could you weather every September and still be pumped up about each April?

Baseball has become nothing less that what our society as a whole has become. Don’t expect Prior to be noble or “honorable” in this situation. He is simply getting what he can. Just like you or I would when trying to negotiate a raise at our jobs. You wouldn’t take less than you could, why would he?

Being a big Cubs fan, Prior was one of my favorite players and every year I found myself telling all of my friends (Astros Fans) that this year will be the year he came back and proved everyone wrong.
It definately was not about the money because apparently the Cubs offered him a larger base salary than the Padres but he wants to play close to home.
Too bad he left because this year is the year the Cubs win it all.
