The New York Mets are reportedly once again looking for a starting catcher. The Mets were thought to have reached a deal with former Colorado Rockie catcher Yorvit Torrealba, however, that deal apparently fell through. The New York Times had this quote:
“We didn’t reach an agreement with Torrealba, and we don’t have any ongoing negotiations with either he or his agent,” said Jay Horwitz, the team’s vice president for media relations.
The list of available catchers that also interest the Mets is dwindling quite quickly. They've been rumored to be interested in trading for Baltimore's Ramon Hernandez but that would likely cost them some of the talent they wanted to use to acquire a front line starting pitcher. Also keep an eye on the Rockies who might try to quickly wrap up Torreabla now that he's available again.
