Rumor: Royals Reach Deal with Guillen

by Ben Cook on December 4, 2007

ESPN.com is reporting that the Kansas City Royals have inked outfield free agent Jose Guillen to a three year, $36 million deal. To be honest, it seemed to me that the Royals were bidding against themselves on this one and probably over paid. However, I guess when you're the Royals you have to do that more often than not. Guillen is a solid player but has been tied to steroids and wouldn't be a surprise to make an appearance on the Mitchell report. If the commissioner's office comes down hard on players that make the report, and Guillen misses considerable time, the Royals may live to regret this one.

Guillen is just the bginning for the Royals whom are now trying to make-up to it fans for trading All-Star caliber talent away year after year.

Andruw Jones is now on their radar. As is Gagne and Fukedome.

Trey Hillman told MLB.com “The only thing I can say without compromising my loyalities is that the aggressiveness [by Moore] is extremely exciting and refreshing.”
