Rob, you either heard wrong or just made this up. Peavy is being signed to an extension, they aren’t trading him. I don’t know if you get your kicks going around and trying to start rumors but if so, you should really start with something less outrageous.

I have heard a few rumors to the Yankees are back in the Santana deal, because Boston has switch Ellsbury for Crisp again. In addition to this, the Yankees have between discussing another trade with Washington, but this time a three way deal to bring Peavy & Nick Johnson to NY (AL).

Has anyone else heard this?

For all you Bronx Bombers’ fans, … Salivate. I have been reading all this stuff. If the Yanks don’t pull this deal off, they’ll be the same as always; classic underachievers. Great at the bat up and down the line-up, but with unreliable starting pitching in the one month that counts the most. Santana is the real deal and teamed with Posada, you’d be watching one of the best batteries ever. Santana is a pitcher as opposed to a thrower, a complete pitcher, who knows how to throw. Haren and the others rely on their fastballs, but will not be as good when they no longer have one. The last time I checked Ortiz and Ramirez both hit fastballs pretty well. Most batters send a lot of air rippling past their bats before the ball gets to the plate when Santana throws his change up. He is a pro’s pro. It is true, Big Papi has looked for and hit Santana’s change-up, but he has pretty much hit everyone else too, right. Santana will beat him when it counts, because Santana has a big heart and he wants to win. He competes in the best way. He is friends with Big Papi, but guess what; he definitely wants to strike him out, just as he wants to strike everyone out, especially when it counts. Santana is made for the Bronx. Read what Posada has to say about it. Posada’s path to Cooperstown is to catch Santana. He is a good hitter, but not that good. He’d give his “eye teeth” to catch Johan. I would come to watch. I love Posada, he works hard, but he would be in heaven to catch Santana. It wouldn’t be work for him. He would die to catch Santana. Santana is like fine grade silk. Cashman knows; these other pitchers are year by year. I think Petite has at least another year, but he isn’t even a sure bet. Who else can you count on in the playoffs? Who competes? Liriano – Absolutely; but who else? What are you going to do for the other 8 innings of the first five playoff games? Perhaps you guys are thinking about the season, but hey, last I checked, getting a sure win in the playoffs is really what is needed. Who beat the Yanks this year? No one else can even remember. Funny that some Yankee fans that think Haren is as good as Santana. Perhaps they can’t remember how badly the Yanks played in the playoffs … and what was it that they didn’t have. I would say Solid Pitching; but fine … go with your two or three farm hands, perhaps an old guy or two and then a couple guys who are good during the season, but have never proved themselves in the playoffs. I am sure they can stand the pressure in the playoffs next year. Maybe Hank will ease off and tell them not to worry about it; it will be okay if they aren’t on. I am sure the Yanks will finally be able to win the big ones with those guys, just like they have for the past few years, right? The best pitcher in baseball is available; if the Yanks don’t get him, you will have all of October next year to remeber the one that got away. There are a lot of fish stories in Minnesota, but this one will be big enough for New York!Good luck.

The Daily News has the Yankees pursuing Haren now that (or if) the Santana deal is dead. But, if you believe what the Yankees say publicly, there’s a bridge in their hometown for sale.

BTW, Haren is under contract for 2008 ($4 million), 2009 ($5.5 mil) and there’s an option for 2010 at $6.75 million. Those numbers are pretty attractive compared to what Santana is going to demand from whoever ends up with him.

@ 1213, read the post again. I didn’t say Haren is better than Santana (although Haren did have a better year last year). I said Haren would be the better pitcher to trade for. Basically trading for Santan is giving up 3 or 4 players for the right to sign him to a huge deal. You’re going to be paying through the nose for several years as well as losing 3 or 4 players. By trading for Haren you’ll be paying MUCH MUCH less, and getting a pitcher that is a year younger, and still under team control. That’s why I think Haren would be the better trade target.
