Rumor: Tigers want Cabrera, Wills

by pops on December 4, 2007

Conventional wisdom has it that the floodgate of trades will open once Santana and Cabrera have been dealt. But in a sign of just how difficult it has become to package a trade involving such big name players, neither deal has materialized and the rumors (and the clubs involved) seem to change almost hourly. In the Cabrera sweepstakes, the Detroit News has the Tigers willing to send two of their top prospects, Cameron Maybin and AndrewMiller (who also happen to be the top picks from the 2005 and 2006 drafts), to the Marlins in exchange for Cabrera and lefty Dontrelle Willis. Of course the possibility of such a blockbuster deal raises as many questions as it answers, not the least of which is what the Tigers would do with their current third baseman Brandon Inge and the $19 million he has remaining on his contract.
