The New York Yankees have resigned left-handed reliever Damaso Marte to a three year deal, reportedly worth a total of $12 million. The Yankees acquired Marte from the Pirates last season in a deal at the trade deadline and apparently liked what they saw enough to bring him back.
The hard throwing reliever saw his ERA skyrocket from 3.47 to 5.40 after moving to the Yankees but the market for left handed relief is fairly thin this year with Jeremy Affeldt already inking a deal with the Giants and Trever Miller set to sign with the Cardinals.
The signing should boost the stock of the remaining lefty's out there (the likes of Arthur Rhodes and Will Ohman) and it wouldn't surprise me to see several more teams jump into the mix quickly to make sure they're not stuck picking over the scrap heap.
