Cubs acquire RHP Justin Germano from Boston

Things have been rather quite lately on the MLB trade front. But on Thursday, a few teams made some interesting moves including the Chicago Cubs who acquired RHP Justin Germano from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations. This according to a team press release.

Germano had already been designated earlier in the week to make room for a returning Jacoby Elsbury, so it’s not really a surprise. Add to that, that the Cubs may be in need of a little rotation depth if they should deal Matt Garza or Ryan Dempsey and this makes more sense.

The 29-year-old made only  one appearance with Boston this season, allowing no runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings, before going  9-4 with a 2.40 ERA in 17 games — 16 starts — with Triple-A Pawtucket.

The most interesting thing about this trade is the fact that the Cubs appear even closer to dealing Dempster than previously anticipated.

Spread the Rumor!
