Free agent starting pitcher Ryan Dempster has agreed to a two-year contract with the Boston Red Sox, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The contract is reportedly for $26.5 million.

The Red Sox are retooling this offseason after dealing away a handful of big contracts last season. They have money to spend and they’re definitely spending it. They’ve already signed Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino, and Koji Uehara, and now Dempster.

Dempster, 35, pitched for the Cubs and Rangers last season and had a 3.38 ERA in 28 starts. He pitched much better for the Cubs than the Rangers, however.

The veteran righty was reportedly seeking a three-year deal and turned down a two-year, $25 million offer from Boston just last week, but he must have not had any three-year offers and got Boston to raise the money just a bit.
