Ross to Red Sox

The Red Sox have added depth to their outfield, as senior baseball writer for ESPN.com Jerry Crasnick reported late Monday that Boston has reached an agreement with free agent outfielder Cody Ross on a one-year, $3 million contract.

Ross' deal also includes unspecified incentive bonuses based on plate appearances says one source.

Cody Ross' deal with the #RedSox is for $3M base salary plus bonuses based on plate appearances.

The 31-year old  originally wanted a three-year contract this offseason, but  it wasn't happening. This deal however, will allow him to play from a championship contender in an atmosphere that is  more conducive to right-handed power hitters than his former home at AT&T Park in San Francisco where he went 240/.325/.405 for the Giants last season, with 14 home runs and 52 RBI.

The MVP of the 2010 National League Championship Series, is a .261 career hitter with 100 homers in eight seasons with Detroit, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati, Florida and San Francisco.

He will give the Sox a right-handed alternative in right field and also provide insurance in left if Carl Crawford fails to recover from wrist surgery by Opening Day.
