Youkilis Trade Talks Intensify

by Matthew on June 18, 2012

We’ve all speculated for quite some time now that Red Sox long-time third baseman Kevin Youkilis has been on the trading block in Boston.

But it appears that talks about dealing the veteran have intensified over the last 24 hours, and according to a high-ranking official with a National League club, Youkilis is “being shopped everywhere.”

This according to  Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi of

NL teams reportedly interested in the three-time All-Star are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Youkilis is batting just .215/.301/.341 during another injury-plagued season, and has more than $7 million left on his contract this year, along with a $1 million buyout on next year’s $13 million club option.

Therefore, it’s not likely Boston will get a lot in return from potential suitors. It will all depend on how much of his remaining salary the BoSox are willing to suck up.

The trade seems imminent however, as the team is looking to the future, and could very well get a prospect worth waiting for.

In the meantime, they will plug in Will Middlebrooks as their everyday third baseman.

And who knows, Youkilis could be invigorated by a change of scenery.
