First basemen Carlos Pena has declined the Cubs’ offer of arbitration, tweets Jon Heyman of SI.com.

Pena is now a free agent, and it’s widely expected that he will be able to find a multi-year deal.

The 33-year-old Pena hit .225 with 28 home runs and 80 RBI last year for the Cubs. He could be a much cheaper fallback option for teams in need of a first baseman, but without the finances to go after Prince Fielder or Albert Pujols.
