The Cubs and Rockies completed a trade last night, and third baseman Ian Stewart will now call Chicago home. The Rockies traded the 26-year-old third baseman, along with 26-year-old minor league pitcher Casey Weathers to the Cubs for outfielder Tyler Colvin and infielder D.J. LeMaheiu.
Troy Renck of the Denver Post first announced the trade on Twitter.
Stewart, a former first round pick and highly-touted prospect, has been the subject of trade rumors for awhile and was likely to be traded in this, his second season of arbitration eligibility.
By moving Stewart and also Huston Street earlier this week, the Rockies have cleared almost $10 million from their payroll. Earlier this week we heard they they were interested in free agent reliever Brad Lidge and may also look to acquire more starting pitching this winter.
