Cubs Trade Johnson & Maholm to Braves

Update 2: The Braves have reportedly traded for pitcher Paul Maholm as well as Reed Johnson.

Maholm has been on fire lately going 5-0 with a miniscule 1.02 ERA over his last 6 starts and will be a huge addition to the Braves rotation.

The Chicago Cubs have apparently traded right fielder Reed Johnson.

It’s uncertain where Johnson is headed or who the Cubs got in return. There has been speculation that the Pirates were attempting to acquire the veteran. The Cubs are also openly trying to trade pitcher Ryan Dempster to the Dodgers, and it’s possible Johnson was included as part of that deal.

Johnson is batting a solid .301 with 3 home runs and .799 OPS for the lowly Cubs this year.

Update: It’s possible the Detroit Tigers are Johnson’s destination, according to Bob Nightengale’s tweet:
