White Sox acquire Greg Golson from Royals

by Matthew on March 25, 2012

According to National Baseball Writer for FOXSports.com and FOX Sports Radio contributor John Morosi.

The Chicago White Sox acquired  once-touted  Baseball America’s “Best Athlete,” “Fastest Baserunner” and “Best Outfield Arm” in the Texas organization, Greg  Golson, from the Kansas City  Royals on Sunday for cash considerations.

Golson,  a first round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2004, will now play for his fourth team in eight seasons in the majors–Phillies (2008), Texas (2009) and the New York Yankees (2010, 2011).

Although still speedy on the base pads, Golson’s contact has been his downfall, as he has just eight hits and one walk in 42 career big league plate appearances, and is a career .261/.318/.380 hitter in 1,383 Triple-A plate appearances.

He does have quite the legit arm, though.

Is this simply a move by the ChiSox to improve their outfield depth for the minor leagues, which was needed after the season-ending injury to Brandon Short?

Who knows?
