Reds Get Sean Marshall In Four-Player Deal

Wednesday we heard that a deal was close, and now it’s become a reality. The rebuilding Cubs have shipped off left hander Sean Marshall to the Cincinnati Reds, in exchange for starter Travis Wood, outfielder Dave Sappelt, and infielder Ronald Torreyes.

Marshall is set to make $3.1 million this season and the Cubs are in the process of moving anyone of value and going into a full rebuild, as David Kaplan of CSN Chicago wrote in his blog.

Wood is a 24-year-old lefty who is under team control through 2016. Sappelt saw some major league time in the outfield last season, hitting .243. Torreyes is just 19 years old and played in A-ball last year.

Marshall should help solidify Cincinnati’s bullpen as they look to compete in the NL Central.
