Swisher signs with the Indians

Despite attracting attention from major market players like the Dodgers and Yankees, it appears that Nick Swisher is set to spend his next four years in Cleveland.

According to multiple sources including Mark Feindsand of the New York Daily News, the Indians have signed Swisher to a four-year deal worth $56 million. The deal also includes a $14 million fifth-year vesting option and can vest based on a certain number of plate appearances in 2016.

The deal is not a surprise, as the Tribe had interest in the veteran from the get go.

The 32-year old hit .272/.364/.473 with 24 home runs and 93 RBIs for the Yankees last season, who made a qualifying offer to him, which allows them to acquire the Indians second round pick. Since they did not hold a first round pick.

With that, Swisher’s position and skills — a power-hitting corner outfielder — should be replaceable by a team with the Yankees’ resources.
