Rumor: Tigers Gambling on Rogers

by Ben Cook on November 7, 2007

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that 42 year old Kenny Rogers is "leaning towards coming back to play." Unfortunately for the Tigers, Rogers is still a client of Scott Boras and despite making several promises that if he returned it would be with Detroit, it looks like Rogers will once again test the free agent waters.

Rogers spent most of the year on the DL last year and compiled a 3-4 record with a 4.43 ERA in only 11 starts. From where I sit it looks like Rogers is taking a page out of Roger Clemens' book and hoping to manipulate an inflated salary out of a team he's already proclaimed loyalty to. The only problem with that is the "gambler" is certainly no "rocket." I suspect he'll end up signing with the Tigers after a short Boras orchestrated circus.

Spread the Rumor!

Maybe it’s time for MLB to create a senior circuit the way golf has. Only players 40 and over and you only play on weekends (oh wait a minute, I think they call that softball).
