Sanchez and Guthrie Get a Change of Scenery

by kelly on July 20, 2012

Two struggling starting pitchers have been traded for each other as their respective teams hope a change of scenery will do the pitchers good. Kansas City has traded Jonathan Sanchez to Colorado in exchange for Jeremy Guthrie. Jon Morosi of FOX Sports tweeted the news.

The Royals designated lefty starter Sanchez, 29, for assignment last week. Since being traded for All Star starter Melky Cabrera last offseason, he was just 1-6 with a 7.76 ERA in 12 starts.

Guthrie was another disappointing trade acquisition, as the Rockies acquired him in the offseason and he put up a 6.35 ERA in 19 games. The Rockies demoted him to the bullpen after 15 starts.

Both the Royals and the Rockies are well out of the playoff race, so this is just a swap to see if either of these guys can have a careerĀ resurgenceĀ in a new city.
