Jered Weaver’s no-no on Wednesday was inspirational, and apparently the Angles got inspired as they picked up an upgrade for a bullpen which entered play Thursday with a combined 5.08 ERA.
This according to several sources including John Morosi from FOX Sports that reported that the Halos acquired RHP Ernesto Frieri from the Padres for INF-OF Alexi Amarista and RHP Donn Roach.
The 26-year old Frieri has an impressive 2.33 ERA over 105 career relief appearances, including a 2.31 ERA and 18/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings this season.
So what do the Angles gain?
Frieri was 1-0 with a 2.31 earned run average in 11 games with San Diego this season.
And what so they lose?
Amarista, 23, batted .273 with 12 runs batted in and 11 runs scored in 18 games for Triple-A Salt Lake, while Roach went 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA in six starts for Single-A Inland Empire this year.
I’d say right now, that’s a good trade for a struggling Los Angeles club.
