It was announced Tuesday afternoon via Twitter, that the Los Angeles Dodgers have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a a two-year $19 MM deal with Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw.
The deal was also reported by Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, adding that Kershaw will receive a $500,000 signing bonus with salaries of $7.5 million 2012 and $11 million in 2013. $2 MM of his 2012 salary will be deferred to January 2013.
The 23-year-old left-hander's deal with LA mirrors that of San Francisco's Tim Lincecum.
Kershaw is a valuable asset to the Dodgers rotation and was 21-5 with a 2.28 ERA and 248 strikeouts in 2011, winning the NL pitching triple crown.
Rumor has it that Kershaw requested $10 million, but was offered $6.5 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last month.
While this deal may not have been the truly long-term contract some of the Dodger's faithful were hoping for, it's secures Kershaw through 2014.
