Jon Morosi is reporting on Fox Sports that baseball bad-boy Manny Ramirez is planning on a comeback.
Ramirez has applied for reinstatement from MLB’s voluntary retirement list but would first have to serve a 50-game suspension for his past use of banned substances before being eligible to play.
Ramirez’ played only 5 games in 2011 before retiring and also was charged with domestic battery in September.
His track record makes him a long shot for a successful comeback but some team will no doubt look at his 555 career home runs and decide he’s worth the risk.
UPDATE:
Mannie’s suspension was for 100 games. The players’ union is apparently arguing that he effectively served the suspension last year (post “retirement”). MLB views the situation differently. The 50-game suspension is viewed as a likely compromise.
