Carlos Lee Traded to Miami

Just days after he vetoed a trade to the Dodgers by invoking the no-trade clause in his contract, Carlos Lee has been traded, this time to the Marlins – a team that was not on the list of teams to which he could block a trade. The Astros traded the veteran first baseman to Miami, Buster Olney of ESPN.com tweeted.

The Marlins are in fourth place in the N.L. Central and 5 1/2 games back in the N.L. Wild Card race, but apparently still feel they are within striking distance of a playoff spot, after a wild offseason that saw them aggressively pursue free agents. Lee will provide a veteran presence and some power at the first base position for the Marlins.

In return, the Astros will receive 22-year-old third baseman Matt Dominguez and 23-year-old lefty pitcher Rob Rasmussen. The Astros will also cover Lee’s salary for this season, which is the final season of his contract.
