Willingham to Minnesota Pending Physical

After bouncing around Major League Baseball the past few seasons, veteran outfielder Josh Willingham appears to have found another new home. This time in Minnesota.

The 32-year old slugger is reported to have reached a  multiyear agreement with the Twins,  pending the completion of a physical exam, according to a league source.

Willingham’s deal almost certainly takes the Twins out of the running for current outfielder Michael Cuddyer who was selected by Minnesota in the first round of the 1997 draft, and has spent his entire 10-year MLB career Minnesota stripes.

Cuddyear has been mulling over a an offer from the Colorado Rockies for days. Which suggests he may have multiple better offers.

Minnesota posted an AL worst 103 home runs in 2011, so Willingham could provide some much needed pop at the plate. He batted .246 with a career-high 29 homers and 98 RBIs for Oakland in 2011.

If the deal goes through as expected, the Twins would gain two picks for Cuddyer, who is considered a Modified Type A free agent, while not losing any for acquiring Willingham.
