Could A-Rod’s Injury Change the Yanks’ Plans?

The Yankees received word today that their star third baseman Alex Rodriguez will miss the next six to eight weeks with a fractured hand. With six days left to the trade deadline and an A.L. East crown to capture, will the Bronx Bombers pursue a big third baseman via trade?

The name that immediately comes to mind is Chase Headley of the Padres, and Buster Olney of ESPN.com confirms they’ll be checking in with San Diego’s front office, as well as other teams with potential third base options.

The 28-year-old Headley, however, has many trade suitors and the Yankees might not be willing to part with the pieces that would be needed to acquire him, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

Still, you have to wonder if the Yankees are downplaying their interest. They have never been shy about gutting the farm for a big player that could help them on their quest to a World Series title.
