Every newspaper on the east coast is reporting that the Yankees are in talks with the Twins about a trade for Santana (Johan not Carlos) but the price for the two-time Cy Young Award winner will be steep (Hughes and Cabrera?) since the Mets, Red Sox and Dodgers are also reportedly interested.

make the deal ,,,hughes and melky for santana….remember when hughes had a bad hamstring problem last year…hes not near the pitcher that santana is..and pettite will sign when the yankees get santana…that is a tremendous pitching staff…do it…dont drag your feet…thanks…
What I don’t get is why more teams aren’t in on Santana. I mean yeah you’ll have to give up some good prospects but really, wouldn’t you rather have a proven pitcher than some “probably” prospects?
I think this also highlights a bigger issue facing the MLB. It’s the big market teams that are in the running for Santana and Miguel Cabrera but unfortunately most of these teams are already stacked in comparison to the rest of the league. I mean can you imagine if Boston lands Santana? That would be a ridiculous rotation to go with an already impressive lineup. How is a team like Oakland or Atlanta or Houston or most of the rest of the league supposed to compete with that?
@Rumormill, having to spend big bucks for salary AND give up prospects could kill a lot of teams.
I suppose but the same teams have been mentioned in connection to Miguel Cabrera and he’s a position player. I think there is a serious trend of over valuing prospects lately.
the red sox win the Santana race, being a mets fan i hate to see it but the red sox hit the nail on the head say goodbye too ellsbury but johans worth it. the mets are just gonna get bedard and willis anyway
Uh JP, no one has won the Santana race yet (except maybe Santana) and you’re delusional if you think the Mets will get both Bedard and Willis.
Most teams CAN’T afford Santana’s 7 year 20 million per year contract. That’s why he hasn’t been traded yet. He will play out the season and sign with the yankees next year. and that is that.
