Yankees Talking to ChiSox about Danks

by kelly on December 12, 2011

The Chicago White Sox are in clear rebuilding mode this offseason and next on their list to trade is starting pitcher John Danks.

The Yankees have apparently inquired on the 26-year-old lefty, and the ChiSox asked them for some prized prospects, including catcher Jesus Montero. Jon Heyman of SI.com tweeted this morning that the Yanks might part with one of their top three prospects in a deal for Danks.

#chisox asked for 2 of montero/banuelos/betances for danks. #yankees might -- might -- give up 1 in a package. worth watching.

The Yankees have a clear need for starting pitching and with Russell Martin having a bounce-back season in the Bronx, they may be willing to dangle Montero to get a solid #2 behind C.C. Sabathia. Whether they could get that kind of production from Danks is unclear, however. He has had some solid seasons but struggled a bit last year, going 8-12 with a 4.33 ERA. Danks is in his final year of arbitration this season.
