Trade Report: A’s Deal Ace

by Ben Cook on December 14, 2007

If anyone was worried about the hot stove cooling off, I think we'll be ok. The Oakland Athletics have traded their ace, Danny Haren, as well pitching prospect Connor Robertson to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a half dozen prospects. According to ESPN the A's receive: "pitchers Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland and Greg Smith, infielder Chris Carter and outfielders Aaron Cunningham and Carlos Gonzalez."

The trade of Haren would seem to signal a rebuilding phase for the A's and it wouldn't surprise me to see Joe Blanton possibly traded as well.

For the Diamondbacks, the trade gives them one of the most potent starting rotations in the National League by pairing the young Haren with Cy Young award winner Brandon Webb. Considering the D'backs made it to the NLCS last year before running into the red hot Rockies, the acquisition of Haren would seem to make Arizona the current favorite to represent the NL in the World Series next year.

Spread the Rumor!

imagine what the A’s would look like if they could hold onto their talent….and if Harden could get healthy. their rotation would be Haren, Harden, Hudson, Mulder, & Zito.

Mr. Wonderland,

You make a good point. But you’re a little off. The A’s would never have had Haren and Moulder together. Remember, they traded Moulder to the Cardinals for Haren and others.

They could have had Zito, Moulder, Hudson, Blanton, and Harden together.. that would be a great rotation. Best in baseball.. behind the RedSox.
