Mets Get Hernandez Back from Nats

The injury plagued New York Mets have reacquired infielder Anderson Hernandez from the Washington Nationals.

The Mets traded Hernandez to the Nationals last year to complete a deal for Luis Ayala but today sent minor league infielder Greg Veloz to Washington to get Hernandez back.

Unsigned 1st Round Draft Picks

We’re now just two weeks away from the deadline for teams to sign their draftpicks and most teams still have a lot of work to do.

In case you’re not familiar with the draft rules, any player that remains unsigned after the deadline won’t be allowed to play this year, and will have re-enter the draft next year. Teams that don’t ink their draft picks receive a corresponding pick in next year’s draft to compensate for what by that time will have become a lost or wasted pick.

Mariners Rejected Blockbuster Three-Way Trade

According to Jeff Baker of the Seattle Times. The Red Sox, Mariners, and Padres were discussing a 3 way trade that would send Felix Hernandez to Boston and Adrian Gonzalez to Seattle. But the Mariners reportedly rejected this deal as well. My question to you is, would you have done the deal if you were the GM of the Mariners?

Jake Peavy Traded to White Sox

Update 3:40 CST:

The White Sox have confirmed the trade for Jake Peavy. The Sox are sending Clayton Richard and minor league pitchers Poreda, Russell and Dexter Carter to the Padres for the injured ace.

Jon Heyman, who scooped the story, is also reporting that Peavy has approved the trade this time so the deal is official.

Roy Halladay Staying Put

Update 7-31 3:30 CST:

It looks like Halladay is indeed staying put. While the Angels were making a late push, nothing got done before the deadline passed.

Update 7-31-09:

While there has been no news on a Roy Halladay trade 15 minutes after the official deadline, there are still rumblings that we may still hear about a deal similar to the Manny Ramirez trade last season that wasn’t announced until after the deadline had passed.

Joel Sherman points out that the Jays had said Scott Rolen wouldn’t be traded unless Halladay was and Rolen was traded to the Reds. So, there may be a deal we’ve not heard about.
