Jimmy Rollins to Stay in Philadelphia?

by kelly on December 7, 2011

Chris Singleton of ESPN is reporting that the Phillies may be close to signing shortstop Jimmy Rollins and keeping the former National League MVP in Philadelphia.

Got a pretty encouraging report from a #phillies person that a deal will get done with @ soon. #goodnews

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal tweets the Brewers are hearing that Rollins is indeed staying with Philly, and will shift their attention to other shortstops.

#Brewers hearing that Jimmy Rollins is staying with Phillies, so looks like he's out as possible SS option. Furcal, Gonzalez, Yuni left.

Adds Jon Heyman:

#brewers indeed believe rollins is headed back to philly. Unconfirmed that he is, as of yet. Made sense from start. They love him

Rollins, phillies sound like they're still working on it. Likely to happen. Will be at least 3 yrs. Maybe 3 w/option or even 4.

UPDATE: Hold your horses, says Ken Rosenthal. A deal is not considered close.

Sources: #Phillies not close to re-signing Rollins. Still could happen, but not imminent. #MLB
