The Writing is on the Wall for Philadelphia

It was a disappointing weekend in Philadelphia for fans who thought their team might be able to get back into the race. They got swept on the road in Atlanta and are 16 1/2 games back and in last place in the N.L. East, and are now facing the reality that it’s time to be sellers at the deadline and retool for next year. Buster Olney of ESPN tweets that the team has been talking deals and could be one of the most active sellers over the next two days.

Outfielders Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence have been talked about in rumors, and other players that could be shopped include starting pitcher Joe Blanton and infielder Ty Wigginton. Shortstop Jimmy Rollins is another intriguing name but he is a career Phillie with a big contract, and it remains unlikely that he is dealt. The same goes for southpaw starter Cliff Lee, who is more likely to be shopped this offseason.

The Reds have been linked to Victorino, while the Giants are said to be pursuing Pence. Blanton could be a good fit for the Orioles or the Cardinals.

Spread the Rumor!
