Small Deals: Pirates, Orioles, D-Backs, Brewers

A few small deals that may have gotten overshadowed by the the second largest free agent signing in baseball history happened in the last days of the Winter Meetings. A quick rundown:

  • Starting pitcher Erik Bedard signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The oft-injured lefty has electric stuff when healthy and can be a great pickup for the Bucs.
  • The Orioles acquired starting pitcher Dana Eveland from the Dodgers for two minor leaguers.
  • The Brewers signed free agent shortstop Alex Gonzalez to a one-year deal with a vesting option. The signing should end speculation that the Brewers are after free agent Jimmy Rollins.
  • The Diamondbacks will sign free agent first baseman Lyle Overbay to a one-year, $1 million deal.
