The San Diego Padres announced on Saturday morning that they have acquired two-time All-Star outfielder Carlos Quentin from the Chicago White Sox for minor league pitchers Simon Castro, a right-hander, and southpaw Pedro Hernandez.
Quentin, who grew up in the San Diego area, was a two-time All-Star with the White Sox where posted four consecutive 20-homer seasons, including 36 in 2008.
Although a shoulder injury limited Quentin to just one game in the final month of the 2011 season, the 29-year old hit .254 with 24 home runs, a career-high 31 doubles and 77 RBIs in 118 games last year, when he made his second All-Star team.
Quentin will definitely be a decent addition to an anemic White Sox offense.
Meanwhile, Chicago will receive to very good young prospects in Castro and Hernandez.
Castro, the Padres' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2009, posted a 7-8 record with a 5.63 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 22 starts last season in the San Diego Minor League system.
Hernandez spent time at Class A Lake Elsinore Storm in 2011, along with Tucson and San Antonio, posting a 10-3 record with a 3.49 ERA in 28 games (18 starts) overall. He recorded 94 strikeouts in 116 innings of work. The left-hander is 25-11 over five seasons in the farm leagues.
