Just six days after being released by the Washington Nationals, 11-year veteran OF Xavier Nady has signed a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants.
Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com reports, “that if Nady does well in Fresno, home of the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, he could be called up to the majors as soon as September.”
The 33-year-old was already taking batting practice in Fresno on Saturday and is slated to play today.
Nady who signed a minor league deal with the Nat’s during the offseason, hit just .157 with three home runs and six RBIs in 40 games in 2012, and hadn’t appeared in a major league game since late June because of an ongoing wrist issue.
Although terms of the deal have not been finalized, or released pending the completion of a physical. You can bet the Giants picked up Nady up for a song.
In over 920 games with the Padres, Mets, Pirates, Yankees, Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Nationals, Nady has a .271 average with 100 homers and 399 RBIs.
If he can get his swing back, Nady could provide San Francisco with a good RH pinch-hitting option.
