According to the San Francisco City Press, the San Francisco Giants have decided to table contract extension talks regarding Melky Cabrera, until after the season when he will become a free agent.

It is rumored that San Francesco had been in negotiations with Cabrera’s representatives a few weeks ago, and are believed to have suggested a three-year deal similar in value to Carlos Quentin’s $27 million contract with the Padres, though no official offer was made.

The 27-year-old outfielder who is have a career-year in with the Giants, is due to hit free agency five days after the 2012 World Series.

Currently Cabrera leads the National League with 152 hits and 78 runs, and is batting an impressive .353 with 11 home runs and 56 RBIs. He was also the MVP of the MLB All-Star Game.

A fan favorite in the Bay, I look for the Giants to quietly put some cash away to keep the Melkman in San Francisco for at least another two seasons.

Spread the Rumor!
