Giants and Lincecum Agree to 2-Year Deal

by kelly on January 25, 2012

The Giants and ace starter Tim Lincecum have come to a two-year agreement that will keep the 27-year-old righty pitching on the shores of McCovey Cove through 2013. The arbitration amounts exchanged set new records, both for the amount Lincecum filed for ($21.5 million) and the amount the Giants countered with ($17 million). That is what happens when a guy wins two Cy Young Awards before the age of 26.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chroncile tweeted that The Freak's new deal is for two years, $40.5 million. Schulman's colleague John Shea breaks down the deal.

Is a longer deal in the future for the Giants and Lincecum? Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News tweets both sides are open to it.

Tim Lincecum's contract w/ #SFGiants includes limited no-trade clause, I'm told. Both sides open to longer-term negotiations in near future.

Should be something to watch over the coming season or two. If Lincecum ever hits the free agent market, it would be a feeding frenzy.
