Pujols Signing By Thursday?

by Ben Cook on December 6, 2011

St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Joe Strauss reports the sweepstakes for future Hall of Fame first baseman Albert Pujols are gaining “momentum.”

Talks between Pujols & the Cardinals and Miami Marlins heated up Monday with both teams reportedly meeting with the player & his agent twice throughout the day.

The Marlins reportedly increased their offer for the slugger, and Strauss indicates the Cardinals had a “late night session that was expected to produce a modified proposal.”

It has long been assumed Pujols would give the Cardinals the last chance to meet or beat any competing offer and with the Cardinals finally feeling enough pressure to modify their offer, we could be nearing a decision.

Strauss writes:

The Cardinals… now appear motivated to quickly reach a resolution, perhaps before leaving the Anatole Hilton on Thursday.

Joe Frisaro, MLB.com’s Marlins writer, reports the Marlins are planning to meet with Lozano at some point on Tuesday.

As slow to develop as the market for Pujols has been, it seems fans in Miami and St. Louis may find out soon whether their favorite club is holding the winning ticket in the Pujols sweepstakes this off-season.

Spread the Rumor!
