Rays Close to Signing Hideki Matsui

Jack Curry of the YES Network is reporting on Twitter that veteran DH Hideki Matsui is close to signing a minor league deal with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Hideki Matsui is expected to soon sign a minor league deal with the Tampa Bay Rays. Matsui hit .251 with 12 hrs and 72 RBI for A's last year

Matsui has been working out in the NY area in hopes of continuing his career. The Rays, who are 4th in the AL in runs, will give him a look

Matsui, 37, came to the U.S. before the 2003 season and signed a big deal with the Yankees. In his MLB career over nine seasons, he has hit .285 with 173 home runs.

The Rays have been using Luke Scott at DH but could give Matsui some minor league time to see if he has anything left in the tank for later in the season.
