In return, the Rangers will send 3B Christian Villanueva and righty pitcher Kyle Hendricks to Chicago, tweets Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

Dempster gives a boost to the rotation of the Rangers, who probably felt they needed to add a piece to counter the Angels’ trade for Zack Greinke. He’s having a phenomenal season and should help Texas as they fight for the division down the stretch.

Villanueva is a 21-year-old playing in A-ball and Hendricks is 22 and also in A-ball. Fangraphs ranked Villanueva as the team’s 10th best prospect going into the 2012 season.

FROM EARLIER: With 10 minutes to go until the deadline, Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times tweets the Dodgers are out of talks with the Cubs for right hander Ryan Dempster.

The Yankees are still a possibility but it’ll need to happen fast. Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports also adds the Rangers to the mix.
