Rangers Serious about Oswalt

by Matthew on May 29, 2012

It appears that the Texas Rangers have now officially announced that they are actively involved in negations with veteran pitcher Roy Oswalt.

While it’s been no secret that the Rangers were one of the front runners interested in Oswalt, USA Today reporter Bob Nightengale conformed¬† the rumors on Tuesday after speaking with a team official that requested to remain anonymous ¬†because negotiations are ongoing.

Also discussed in that conversation was the possibility of a decision being made as early as this week.

It makes sense that the Rangers have emerged as the clear favorite now that Neftali Feliz is expected to be sidelined until the All-Star break and could be limited to a relief role upon his return.

The only other team in the Oswalt stakes were the Dodgers, but that has since fizzled.

According to Nightengale, Oswalt is seeking $5 million to $7.5 million in a potential contract, and will likely need three or four weeks to be major-league ready.
