Are the Rangers and Blue Jays the Favorites for Darvish?

MLB has not yet announced the winner of the high bid on Japanese starter Yu Darvish, but there is a lot of talk about who is in and who is out.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News tweeted this morning that the Blue Jays might have gone higher than $50 million, while the Rangers’ bid could be between $40 million and $49 million.

If the Jays land Darvish, the 25-year-old righty would join a young rotation led by All Star Ricky Romero, and signal Toronto making a clear push in the AL East. The two-time defending American League champion Rangers would gain a replacement for departed free agent C.J. Wilson, and provide some extra insurance as they plan to attempt to transition closer Neftali Feliz into the rotation.

UPDATE: It sounds like the Darvish bid winner won’t be revealed until Tuesday, which is the deadline for Darvish’s Japanese team to accept the bid.

Spread the Rumor!
