Blue Jays Favorites to Win the Darvish Sweepstakes

Jim Bowden of ESPN.com tweeted this morning that multiple sources have confirmed the rumor that the Blue Jays were the high bidder for the rights to negotiate a contract with 25-year-old Japanese starter Yu Darvish. Nothing has been confirmed by MLB yet, but the general consensus is that the Jays won the sweepstakes.

The team does not officially get to begin negotiating with Darvish until his Japanese team accepts the bid, which they have until Tuesday to do. Then, the Blue Jays will have a 30-day negotiating window to get Darvish signed to a contract.

No word yet on how much Toronto bid, but it’s been said to be a “sky high” offer.

Spread the Rumor!
