Fielder Sweepstakes Nearing an End?

by kelly on January 24, 2012

It’s the last week of January and on big free agent has yet to find a new home, but he may not wait much longer. Ken Rosenthal reported in his column this morning that the Nationals are the clear favorites at this point for first baseman Prince Fielder, and the big man and his agent Scott Boras might not wait much longer.

Nothing is a done deal yet though. John Heyman writes that four or five teams are still in the mix, and we saw how things played out with Albert Pujols and the Angels seemingly coming out of nowhere to sign him.

Heyman names the Rangers and Orioles as other possible destinations for Prince, with the possibility still out there of a “mystery team” or two.

It’s been a long offseason of waiting for Fielder and the number of years on a contract has seemed to be the main issue to overcome for teams showing interest. Prince was rumored to be looking for as many as ten years at one point, but indications are most teams are wary about going more than five or six.

Spread the Rumor!
