UPDATE: The Washington Nationals have agreed to sign Brad Lidge, according to MLB.com's William Ladson. It's a one-year deal, the team has announced.
FROM EARLIER: The Washington Nationals are nearing an agreement with free agent closer Brad Lidge, Jim Sallisbury of CSN Philly tweets.
Lidge, 34, missed much of 2011 because of injury, but came off the DL and pitched well for the Phillies down the stretch, with a 1.40 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings pitched. If the Nationals add Lidge, they'll need to decide whether to go with him or 24-year-old Drew Stroren to close out games.
